General questions & usage

It's a web graphic user interface for the exiftool software (the best tool for manipulating EXIF metadata).
It's linked with Flickr, Dropbox and Google Drive, so you can browse your cloud pictures and edit them directly.
Please take a look at the Supported Files Table and the Medatada Compatibility Table for more informations
Please check the Upload Limits Table in the Documentation section.
Premium accounts can upload larger files than a free account.
I'm sorry no, you can't.
Anyway they'll be deleted automatically after 15 minutes.
Probably because your picture does not contain any EXIF metadata, or just because you've uploaded multiple pictures.
In this case theXifer can't read and combine the EXIF medatada of your pictures, so the form is clean and ready to write your informations into all the uploaded files.
After uploading the images, simply flag the red option "EXIF Cleaner" to delete any metadata contained within the files.
To make an image completely anonymous, simply flag the "EXIF Cleaner" option and press the "Go.Exifing" button at the end of the form.
All metadata contained in the photo or media file will be cleared.
theXifer.net is able to read and edit GPS information contained in both photos and multimedia files.
In order to modify or remove the information relating to the geolocation of a photo, simply upload the file and click on the button.
The editor will open and under the "GEO Tags" tab you will be able to edit or remove the GPS information.
Alternatively, you can click the "EXIF Cleaner" option to clear all EXIF metadata (including GPS information) contained in the file and make the image completely anonymous.
To crop a photo online you can use the tool built into thexifer.net.
Just upload the file, and click on the icon at the top left to open the cropping tool.
The tool allows you to rotate, scale, mirror and crop the photo freely or respecting one of the following proportions:
  • 16:9
  • 4:3
  • 3:4
  • 1:1
  • 2:1
  • 2:3
  • 3:2
Keep in mind that the tool supports images up to a maximum of 40MB, larger files cannot be graphically modified using the online tool.
theXifer.net supports files larger than 40MB only for editing the EXIF metadata they contain.
theXifer.net supports the most important XMP and IPTC copyright tags.
You have to upload your pictures and edit them with the standard or advanced editor.
The advanced editor is available only for premium users.
It supports more copyright related tags than the standard editor and it will give you complete control of the metadata contained in the images.
theXifer.net can convert JPG, TIFF, PNG and GIF files to WebP.
It supports batch conversion, so you can upload a maximum of 30 files and convert them to .webp with one click.
The conversion will leave the EXIF, IPTC, XMP, and any other tags present in the image intact. So any metadata changes made through the form in the theXifer.net app will be incorporated into the converted .webp file.
.WebP files are supported by the eXifer in the same way as other image files.
To edit the metadata contained in a .WebP file, simply load it and open the editor.
.PDF files are supported by the eXifer in the same way as other image files.
The .PDF format does not support all the tags available for image files, therefore with theXifer.net it will only be possible to edit the metadata supported by this format.
To edit the metadata contained in a .PDF file, simply load it and open the editor.
Unfortunately, the latest versions of Google Chrome for Android remove the geolocation information of photos during any upload to the web in order to protect user privacy.
If you are looking for a working alternative you could try Mozilla Firefox which, at the moment, keeps the geolocation information intact even if the photo is uploaded with a mobile phone.

Facebook 360

TheXifer.net tool integrates a specific function that allows Facebook to recognize any image, even if not taken with a panoramic camera, as a 360-degree image.
Just load the image into the editor, select the "Make this picture Facebook 360 compatible" checkbox and press the button.

Please note that the image must meet the following requirements to be compatible with Facebook 360.
  • The photo must have a 2:1 aspect ratio;
  • Photos should be less than 30,000 pixels in any dimension, and less than 135,000,000 pixels in total size;
  • Facebook recommend using JPEG for 360 photos and keeping the file size less than 20-30 MB;

If your picture does not respect these rules probably it'll not be recognized as 360 picture from Facebook.
You can crop images smaller than 40MB with the built-in editor in theXifer.net. To use it, simply press the button at the top left after uploading the image.
Because your picture have to meet some requirements to be recognized as 360.

  • Photos should be less than 30,000 pixels in any dimension, and less than 135,000,000 pixels in total size;

If your picture does not respect these rules probably it'll not be recognized as 360 picture from Facebook.

Flickr, Dropbox & Google Drive Questions

Because if you like to edit or update the EXIF information of your Flickr, Dropbox or Google Drive pictures I have to download, edit and replace them.
The "on the fly" editing process available for Flickr, Dropbox or Google Drive is similar to the one of your local files; the eXifer needs to process your pictures, so when you click on the "eXif.me" button located under a Flickr, Dropbox or Google Drive picture this website will download it to read the EXIF recorded metadata, now you can change what you want and by clicking the submit button any changes will be immediately available by replacing the original file.
Absolutely not!
Your pictures will be temporary downloaded just to let you editing them.
The temp files will be deleted as soon as you'll refresh the home page of this site, or automatically after 15 minutes from the download time.
Because this app is able to process only images files (please check the Supported Files Table for detailed informations about), so all the other files will be ignored.
For example if you have a Dropbox folder with 5 PDF files, 5 ZIP files and 5 JPG files, theXifer will display just 5 jpg images.
Because the Dropbox API does not provide a thumbnail link like the Google Drive or Flickr api, it returns an encoded string with the content of the thumbnail.
theXifer iterate this kind of request to Dropbox one time for each thumbnail, unfortunately this process is really slow, so by default you'll see just a default thumbnail with the Dropbox logo.
Because sometimes the Flickr service slow down and I'm not able to download Thumbs or Picture and let you edit them.
I'm really sorry but I can't control this issue, I can only suggest you to try again later.
With theXifer.net app you can select up to 10 images and convert them in one click into .webp format.
The conversion process will leave the image metadata intact, so you will be able to edit the EXIF, IPTC and XMP information embedded in your files and convert it to .webp.
The result will be a file with a .webp extension that incorporates all previously made metadata changes.
